Detailed introduction to SKF insulated bearings

Principle and structure

Insulation principle: SKF insulated bearings mainly prevent current from passing through the bearings and prevent electrical corrosion and electrical failure of the bearings by coating a layer of insulating material on the outer ring or inner ring surface of the bearing. This layer of insulating material usually has high resistance and good insulation properties, which can effectively block the current circuit.

Coating process: The insulating coating is generally applied by plasma spraying technology or thermal spraying process. Taking alumina coating as an example, during the thermal spraying process, alumina particles are transported and melted in the hot plasma flow, and then sprayed onto the pre-treated bearing surface, and the required coating is formed after cooling.

Basic structure: In terms of structure, SKF insulated bearings are similar to ordinary bearings, consisting of an outer ring, an inner ring, rolling elements and a cage. The difference is that the outer ring or inner ring surface of the insulated bearing has an insulating coating, or the rolling elements are made of ceramic material, so that the bearing has insulating properties.

Performance characteristics

Good insulation performance: It can provide stable insulation resistance, effectively prevent current from passing through the bearing, and avoid the occurrence of electrical corrosion. The insulation resistance of its standard coating can reach 200MΩ, and the advanced coating can reach 400MΩ.

High reliability: After strict quality control and testing, it has high reliability and stability, can operate stably for a long time in harsh working environments, and reduce the failure rate and maintenance costs of equipment.

Strong corrosion resistance: The insulating coating not only has insulation properties, but also plays a certain protective role, improves the corrosion resistance of bearings, and extends the service life of bearings.

Good size compatibility: SKF insulated bearings are interchangeable with ordinary all-steel bearings in size, which is convenient for users to replace and install on existing equipment without large-scale modification of equipment.

Types and applications

Main types: There are mainly INSOCOAT series, including VL0241 and VL0246 for small and medium-sized traction motors, and VL2071 and VL2076 for large traction motors. Among them, VL0241 and VL2071 are standard coatings with an insulation resistance of 200MΩ; VL0246 and VL2076 are advanced coatings with an insulation resistance of 400MΩ.

Maintenance and Care

Installation Precautions: When installing SKF insulated bearings, appropriate tools and methods should be used to avoid damage to the insulating coating. At the same time, ensure that the bearing mounting surface is clean and flat to ensure a good fit between the bearing and the mounting part.

Lubrication Requirements: Select a suitable lubricant based on the operating conditions and requirements of the bearing. Generally speaking, grease is suitable for occasions that require simplified maintenance, improved cleanliness and improved pollution protection; in high-speed applications, oil lubrication should be used due to the high temperature.

Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the bearings, including checking the operating status, temperature, vibration, noise, etc. of the bearings, and checking whether the insulating coating is damaged or detached. If any abnormality is found, timely measures should be taken to deal with it.
